Cullen Maksimowski, a native of Rockford, Mich., joins the Lake Superior State Athletics staff as the new Athletic Communications Director.
In his current role, Maksimowski manages all external communications and media relations functions as well as website/video content and social media presence for the University's 12 varsity athletics programs. Maksimowski also serves as the primary communications contact for all varsity sports and oversees game statistical operations.
"I'm very excited to join the Lake Superior State Athletics staff and to be a part of the Laker family," said Maksimowski. "Athletic communications is something I am very passionate about and I feel very blessed for this privalage to grow as a professional and contribute to this department's success. I want to thank Dr. Paitson and the committee for this opportunity and their support as I take on the responsibilities of this role."
Prior to LSSU, Maksimowski was a communications assistant at Cornerstone University where he served as the lead feature writer for cugoldeneagles.com and assisted with the department's social media and marketing functions.
As an undergrad, Maksimowski attended Central Michigan University where he worked for three years as a student assistant in the Athletic Communications Department gaining experience in media relations, social media, website management and game management while working with all 16 of the Chippewa's Division I varsity programs. As a senior, Maksimowski was promoted to a lead staff writer position serving as the primary written content producer under CMUChippewas.com Editor-in-Chief, Andy Sneddon.
Additionally, Maksimowski completed a summer internship with the Georgia Sports Foundation, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, assisting with the annual Georgia State Amateur Olympics. As the foundation's public relations intern, Maksimowski was responsible for all media relations, website management, graphic design and social media functions for the Georgia Summer Games.
While at CMU, Maksimowski earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts (2016) degree while majoring in Integrative Public Relations with a minor in Sport Management. Maksimowski was also an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Sport Management Association. Maksimowski is a 2012 graduate of Rockford High School where he was a three-year letter winner in wrestling earning All-Conference and All-District honors his junior and senior year.
The son of Brian and Katrina, Cullen is the oldest of five siblings. He enjoys hiking, backpacking, kayaking, boating, cooking and watching Netflix. Maksimowski holds an active membership in the College Sports Information Directors of America.
