SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—Over the last nine years, "Pink in the Rink" has been a staple of the Lake Superior State hockey program helping raise more than $165,000 towards breast cancer and women's health research and treatment through the local community.
This year, the committee is taking that mission a step further.
The "Pink in the Rink" event will now go by the name "Check.Slash.Survive" to align with the committee's new objective to broaden its reach and support efforts to all types of cancer affecting men, women and children throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula community.
The unveiling of the new "Check.Slash.Survive" fundraising event takes place this Saturday (Jan.27) as the Laker Hockey team hosts Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival Bowling Green at 7:07 p.m. inside Taffy Abel Arena.
Saturday's CSS event will feature many of the same elements of PITR including a raffle and silent auction featuring several custom CSS gold jerseys worn during the game.
CSS apparel is available for purchase in the Norris Center lobby (12-6 p.m.) through Thursday (Jan.25) as well as Saturday's event.
