SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Former Lake Superior State assistant hockey coach, Rich Metro has announced his acceptance of a head coaching position at Shattuck- St. Mary's preparatory & boarding school in Faribault, Minnesota.
Metro will make his transition in the coming weeks joining an SSM hockey program which is widely regarded as one of the top prep hockey programs in the country. Current NHL stars such as Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks), Zach Parise (Minnesota Wild), Kyle Okposo (New York Islanders) are among the on the long list of SSM Saber alum to skate professionally.
"We would like to thank Rich for his dedication and commitment to Laker hockey over the years," said LSSU head coach Damon Whitten. "We wish him and his family well in this new opportunity and look forward to working with him in his new role."
Metro, a Sault Ste. Marie native, departs LSSU after a combined eight seasons on the Laker hockey coaching staff. After serving as the hockey video coordinator and volunteer coach in 2007-08 and an assistant coach for three seasons (2008-11), He spent the next three seasons (2011-14) in France where he was head coach of the Villard de Lans professional hockey team. Metro rejoined the Laker staff in 2014 as Whitten's first assistant, recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator.

"Rich has been a valuable asset to the Laker hockey program for number of years and will be missed by both the Lake State and Sault community. We wish him the best of luck in his new journey."
