Twenty-three student-athletes receive GLIAC All-Academic honors

BAY CITY, Mich. – The 2009-10 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic teams have been announced. Lake Superior State's indoor men’s and women’s track and field totaled 16 runners on the list. Men’s and women’s basketball landed seven student-athletes.

Track and Field’s Amanda Pieczynski (Posen, Mich.) led the Laker student-athletes with a 3.928 GPA in Exercise Science. Kayla Nowak (Alpena, Mich.) 3.838 in Athletic Training, Taylor Patton (Northwood, Ohio) 3.658, Alyse Smith (Clayton, Mich.) 3.694 in Political Science, Kimberlee Booms (Harrison, Mich.) 3.231 in Nursing, Laura Lindsey (Gladwin, Mich.) 3.300 in Nursing, Heather Millard (Plainwell, Mich) 3.177 in Biology, and Jill Walton (Kingsley, Mich.) 3.571 in Elementary Education round out the women’s track and field athletes.

Sean O’Mara (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), men’s Indoor Track and Field, has a 3.602 in Biology. Paul Davis (St. Ignace, Mich.) 3.150 in Criminal Justice, Jake Hoover (Capac, Mich.) 3.369 in English Language Literature, Michael McPherson (Ironwood, Mich.) Athletic Training, Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) 3.540 in Fire Science, Ben Charbonneau (Sudbury, Ont.) 3.591 in Finance and Economics, Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Mich.) 3.297 in Exercise Science, John Preczewski (Roscommon, Mich.) 3.107 in Electrical Engineering round out the men’s team.

Seven men’s and women’s basketball players made the All-Academic team. Emily Joseph (Sterling Heights, Mich.) led both teams with a 3.596 GPA in Teaching. Four other women’s basketball athletes made the list, Sarah Cubr (Riverview, Mich.) 3.339 in Exercise Science, Allison Jaynes (Dayton, Ohio) 3.347 Math/Secondary Education, Ronlea Peterson (Midland, Mich.) 3.455 Business Administration/Legal Management, and Cassy Scheberger ( Park Falls, Wis.) 3.562.

Scott Perkins (Perrysburg, Ohio) of the Laker men’s basketball team has a GPA of 3.583 in Psychology. Matt Romatz (Pickford, Mich.) has a 3.214 in Exercise Science to round off the All-Academic team list.
