Charbonneau wins GLIAC javelin title

HILLSDALE - Lake Superior State freshman Ben Charbonneau won the men's javelin throw Thursday during the second day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

Charbonneau secured the title with a throw of 192-01, easily beating the rest of the field. With his performance, he earned All-GLIAC First Team honors and is expected to advance to the NCAA Division II Championships in San Angelo, Texas, May 21-23.

Katie Scott placed fourth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:14.72, while Amanda Pieczynski improved upon her school record in the women's 200-meter dash. Pieczynski clocked a :26.16 and was 11th in the preliminaries.

Ninth-place finishes went to Taylor Patton in the long jump (16-02.2), Paul Davis in the men's 200-meter dash (:22.05), John Preczewski in the men's 110-meter hurdles (:15.77) and Ben Tarbutton in the men's 10,000-meter run (32:20.00). Evan Williams placed 11th in the men's 800-meter run (1:57.64).
