ANN ARBOR - Lake Superior State freshman Ben Charbonneau threw a personal best 60.65 meters (199-04 feet) to easily take the men's javelin title Friday at the Len Paddock Relays hosted by the University of Michigan.

Charbonneau moved up to 17th on the national rankings list. The top 16 qualify for the NCAA Division II Nationals.

Charbonneau beat runner-up Mitch Broser of Windsor, Ont., by 10 feet.

LSSU junior steeplechase specialist Katie Scott, who is also ranked nationally, did not compete in a "last chance" meet due to a foot injury.
