Davis, Scott and Wright break indoor records
ALLENDALE - Katie Scott, Paul Davis and Patrick Wright broke school records as the Lake Superior State track and field team opened the indoor season Friday at the GVSU Holiday Invitational.
Davis, a junior, broke his own school record in the men's 200-meter dash by clocking a winning time of :22.27. He beat unattached competitor Lucien Harris in a photo finish and placed first among 69 sprinters. Wright was 25th in the 200 dash with a time of :23.03.
Wright, a freshman, tied for 13th in the final heat of the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of :07.09, beating Davis' former record of :07.12. Davis finished 24th in the 60-meter preliminaries. Wright also placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-10 ¼.
Scott, a junior, shattered her own 5,000-meter run record, finishing fourth in 17:28.44, which is 20 seconds faster than the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time. She bettered her previous personal best of 17:45.93, which ranked in the top-20 nationally in 2006-07.
LSSU senior Ben Tarbutton also posted a top-10 finish, placing fourth in the men's 5,000-meter run. Taylor Patton was seventh in the women's high jump. Katie Winiarski was seventh and Patton eight in the women's triple jump.
