Lake State Classic roundup

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State claimed one-two finishes in the women's shot put and 5,000-meter run, and men's 55-meter hurdles, and landed three runners among the top four spots in the men's 200-meter dash during the 2010 Lake State Classic held Saturday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. 

Jill Walton placed first with a toss of 12.77 meters, and teammate Laura Lindsey was second with an 11.42m throw in the women's shot put. Walton also placed third in the weight throw with a school-record distance of 14.60m.

Paul Davis cruised to a first-place finish in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of :23.00. John Preczewski was third in :23.75, followed by Ben Monroe in fourth place (:24.06).

Dillon Menard won the men's 55-meter hurdles in :08.27, and Preczewski was second in 8.52. Preczewski also took third in the men's high jump (1.82m).

Stacey Leyder won the women's 5K in 20:52.01, followed by Kayla Nowak in 21:26.85.

After finishing third during the preliminaries, LSSU's Amber Fater won the women's 55-meter hurdles in a school-record shattering :08.97. Katie Winiarski was first in the high jump (1.60m).

LSSU's other winners were Sean Brandon in the men's 400-meter dash (:52.47) and the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:33.33).

Lake Superior State's other top finishers were Arin Baril, who was 10th in the women's 1,600-meter run and 12th in the 800; Alyse Smith, who was 10th in the women's 3,000-meter run; Davis, who was third in the men's 55-meter hurdles; Justin Sieger, who was eighth in the men's 800-meter run; Jake Hoover, who was second in the men's 3,000-meter run and third in the 1,600; Robert Swain, who was fifth in the men's 5,000-meter run; and Hans Riedel, who was seventh in the men's shot put and fifth in the weight throw.
