Allen places fourth at NCAA DII Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Lake Superior State junior Jonathon Allen placed fourth in the men's triple jump Saturday at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

Allen had a jump of 15.45 meters, which ties his school and meet-record performance at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. He hit the mark on his fourth attempt.

Allen, who earned All-America status, fouled on his first, fifth and sixth attempts. He reached  the finals with legal jumps of 14.89m and 14.23m and was seeded seventh going into the  finals.

"John had a great first jump but it was a foul," LSSU head coach Steve Eles said. "John is capable of being a top three jumper in the country. I was very excited with John placing fourth. He came in entered fifth, so he performed better then he was ranked. John now has the  highest placing in Laker history at the national meet. We are really looking forward to seeing what John can do at the outdoor national meet. He is hungry to move up the podium."
