Men's sprint relay team sets new mark

BIG RAPIDS – Patrick Wright, Jonathon Allen, Paul Davis and Ben Monroe combined to set a new Lake Superior State track and field team record in the 4x100-meter relay at Saturday’s Bulldog Invitational hosted by Ferris State.

The Laker foursome clocked a :42.44 and finished fourth in the sprint relay. The squad broke the previous record of :42.93 set in 2007. Allen also set a new outdoor triple jump mark of 15.46 meters and easily won his specialty event. He surpassed Wright’s previous school record of 13.67 meters, which was set last season. Wright placed fourth at FSU with a distance of 13.40.

LSSU’s other meet champion was junior Ben Charbonneau, who took the men’s javelin throw with a distance of 55.44 meters.

Wright, Sean Brandon Jr., Monroe and Davis finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:27.79. Davis, who was a member of LSSU’s record-setting 4x100-meter foursome in 2007, also placed third in the 200-meter dash (:22.53) and tied for eighth in the 100 dash (:11.48).

Jill Walton shattered her old hammer throw record of 43.47 meters and placed fourth with a new mark of 48.27. Walton also placed fourth in the shot put (12.46 meters), while teammates Laura Lindsey and Kimberlee Booms placed fifth and ninth, respectively. Katie Winiarski tied for third in the high jump (1.55 meters).
