Lakers win two events and set new women's high jump record at NU
MIDLAND – Eighteen Lake Superior State men and eight women, including new high jump school record holder Katie Winiarski, recorded top-five finishes during Saturday’s Northwood Open.
Winiarski cleared 1.70 meters to tie for second place and beat LSSU’s former high jump record of 1.63 meters set on the same track in 2004. Winiarski also finished ninth in the long jump.
LSSU won two men’s events. Robert Swain took the 10,000-meter run in 33:58.62, and Ben Charbonneau won the javelin throw (51.46 meters).
Second-place finishes went to Jill Walton in the women’s discus throw (39.34 meters), Stephen Bates in the men’s 10K (34:35.41), Jake Hoover in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:46.97), Dillon Menard and John Preczewski in the men’s high jump (1.70 meters), and the LSSU men’s 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
