Twenty-three LSSU athletes make spring 2010 GLIAC All-Academic Team
BAY CITY – Seniors Emily Bowen and Kayla Nowak of the track and field team headed a list of 23 Lake Superior State student-athletes who were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Spring 2010 All-Academic Team.
Bowen (Reed City, Mich.), a nursing major with a 3.898 grade point average, and Nowak (Alpena, Mich.), an athletic training major with a 3.875 GPA, were among nine female track and field athletes receiving all-academic honors. Others were seniors Alyse Smith (Clayton, Mich.), Courtney Smith (Lachine, Mich.) and Jill Walton (Kingsley, Mich.), juniors Kimberlee Booms (Harrison, Mich.), Heather Millard (Plainwell, Mich.) and Taylor Patton (Northwood, Ohio), and sophomore Laura Lindsey (Gladwin, Mich.)
The top male track and field student-athlete was junior Sean O’Mara (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), who has a 3.674 GPA in forensic chemistry. The LSSU men’s all-academic squad also included seniors Paul Davis (St. Ignace, Mich.) and Jake Hoover (Capac, Mich.), juniors Ben Charbonneau (Sudbury, Ont.), Ben Monroe (Webberville, Mich.), Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Mich.) and John Preczewski (Roscommon, Mich.), and sophomores Michael McPherson (Ironwood, Mich.) and Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y.).
Junior Jack Miller (Marquette, Mich.) and sophomore Travis Toth (St. Johns, Mich.) represented the LSSU men’s tennis team. Softball players earning all-academic honors were seniors Nichole Dunford (Chesterfield, Mich.) and Lacey Knoop (Reed City, Mich.), and junior Nicole Carstensen (Maple Grove, Minn.).
