Allen heads to NCAA Championships in Turlock, Cal.

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State senior and defending outdoor national champion Jon Allen is the No. 2 seed in the triple jump heading into the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which are May 26-28 at Cal State-Stanislaus in Turlock, Cal.

Allen is an automatic qualifier with a school-record distance of 16.45 meters. Josh Como of Cal State-Los Angeles is ranked first at 16.66 meters. In 2010, Allen won the NCAA title with a jump of 16.27 meters.

LSSU's Hans Riedel (discus throw) and Ben Charbonneau (javelin) missed making the NCAA field by one spot. Charbonneau finished 0.08 meters behind the last qualifier to make the cut, while Riedel missed by 0.01 meters.

All three Laker athletes earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honors.
