Allen finishes second at 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships

TURLOCK, Cal. - Lake Superior State senior Jon Allen placed second behind rival Josh Como of Cal State-Los Angeles in the men's triple jump Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships hosted by Cal State-Stanislaus.

Como won the event with a distance of 16.52 meters, breaking the stadium record of 16.05 meters which he set May 7. Allen's runner-up distance was 15.85 meters.

In 2010, Allen was first at 16.27 meters and Como was second at 15.93.

Three of the top four finishes in 2011 completed their best jumps during the preliminaries. Como opened with a jump of 16.23 meters, then hit his winning mark on his second attempt. Allen's first two jumps were both 15.85 meters.

Senior Ramon Sparks of Abilene Christian was third at 15.72 meters, while Emporia State's Josh Honeycutt was fourth at 15.35 meters.

Allen finished his collegiate career as a two-time indoor and outdoor All-American. His career best in the outdoor event is 16.45 meters.
