Allen shatters his own meet record at EMU Twilight
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Lake Superior State senior Jon Allen jumped a personal best 16.45 meters (53-11 3/4) to win the triple jump and set a new meet record at the EMU Twilight Meet hosted Thursday, Friday and Saturday by Eastern Michigan University.
Allen's distance bettered the meet record of 15.40 meters that he set in 2007 while competing for Michigan State. It also surpassed the winning distance he achieved at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships and is the second-longest jump in the nation this season. He fouled four times, including his first two attempts, then set the mark. He also had a jump of 15.66 during his fifth attempt.
Allen placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.73 meters. Teammate Jeremy Braman, a freshman, was eighth with a 6.38 performance. Braman also cleared 1.95 meters to place fourth in the high jump.
Junior Ben Charbonneau threw the javelin 57.64 meters (189-1) to win that event.
Junior Ben Monroe placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in :11.13 and eighth in the 200-meter dash in :22.12. Freshman Mark List was ninth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:13.97, while senior Jake Hoover was 20th in 15:42.56.
