Lakers win eight events at NMU Northern Challenge
MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State won eight events, including one-two finishes in the women's weight throw, and men's 3,000-meter run, pole vault and triple jump at Saturday's Northern Challenge hosted by Northern Michigan.
LSSU's Kimberlee Booms had a winning throw of 14.10 meters, and teammate Laura Lindsey placed second with a distance of 13.85 meters. Lakers Amanda Calhoun and Lauryn LaFoille were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Laker Jake Hoover won the men's 3K in 8:53.96, and teammate Taylor Heath was second in 9:06.98. Mark List of LSSU placed fifth. Kaleb Schweiger claimed the men's pole vault with a height of 3.81 meters and beat teammate Jake Dean on attempts. Jeremy Braman was first in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.28 meters, while Patrick Wright was second.
Ben Monroe was a double winner for LSSU, taking the men's 55-meter dash in :06.64 and the men's 200-meter dash in :23.07. Monroe's time in the 55 dash tied LSSU's school record.
Other LSSU first-place finishers were Braman in the high jump (1.93 meters) and Hans Riedel in the men's shot put (14.14 meters).
The Lakers compete at the Cardinal Invitational in University Center, Mich., on Jan. 28.
