LSSU decathlon and heptathlon records fall at NU
MIDLAND - Lake Superior State men's decathlon and women's heptathlon records fell while track and field teams competed in wintery conditions Saturday at the Northwood Friends and Family Meet.
Sarah Gallagher totaled a school-record 3,243 points and placed fourth in the heptathlon, while teammate Dena Bliss was fifth with 3,211 points. Gallagher's best performances were fourth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and javelin throw, while Bliss won the shot put.
John Preczewski was fifth with 5,286 points, and Kaleb Schweiger was sixth with 4,970 points in the decathlon. Preczewski finished third in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump.
Defending national outdoor triple jump champion Jon Allen of LSSU won his specialty with a jump of 15.89 meters. Laker Ben Charbonneau placed first in the men's javelin with a throw of 55.68 meters. Hans Riedel placed fourth in the men's discus throw and again improved upon his school record with a distance of 46.58 meters.
Ben Monroe was the runner-up in the men's 100-meter dash (:10.96) and the 200-meter dash (:22.25). Monroe finished behind opponents from Central Michigan in both events. Jeremy Braman took second in the men's high jump (1.98 meters), while Riley Lytwynec finished third in the men's 400-meter hurdles (:57.84).
LSSU's Kayla Nowak (41:25.11), Kelsey Lewis and Elizabeth Dachs placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 10,000-meter run.
