Jumpers win two events at 'The Cardinal'
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Katie Winiarski won the women's triple jump, and Jeremy Braman won the men's high jump to lead the Lake Superior State track and field team at "The Cardinal," which was hosted by Saginaw Valley State on Friday.
Winiarski had a winning triple jump of 34-0 (10.35 meters). Braman cleared 6-8 (2.03 meters) to take the high jump and set a new school record. Braman was one centimeter away from the national qualifying standard of 2.04m.
Kayla Nowak placed second in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:00.79. On the men's side, Jake Hoover was second in the 5K, finishing in 15:35.83, while teammate Mark List was third in 15:47.
"The men's 5K was an impressive race," noted LSSU coach Matt Sparks, who was please to see Hoover, List and fourth-place finisher Taylor Heath break 16 minutes.
Jake Dean placed second and Kaleb Schweiger third in the men's pole vault. Both vaulters cleared 3.96 meters, and Dean placed higher on attempts.
Ben Monroe qualified sixth and placed fourth in the 60-meter dash, tying the LSSU school record with a :07.09 finish.
