Monroe clocks record time in men's 60-meter dash

MOUNT PLEASANT – Lake Superior State’s Ben Monroe set a new school record of :07:08 to win the men’s 60-meter dash at Friday’s Jack Skoog Invitational hosted by Central Michigan University.

Monroe, who beat Michigan Tech’s Akeem Cason by four one-hundredths of a second, improved upon his former school-record tying time of :07.09.

Defending conference triple jump champion Jon Allen, competing for the first time this season, won his specialty with a winning jump of 15.19 meters (49-10). LSSU’s Riley Lytwynec, Zach Lynch, Monroe and Patrick Wright had the fast time among two teams in the men’s 4x400-meter relay. LSSU’s Jeremy Braman placed second in the men’s long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters (21-2 ¾).  Hans Riedel was third in the men’s shot put with a distance of 13.54 meters (44-5 ¼).

The top finisher for the LSSU women’s team was Sarah Gallagher, who was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of :10.76. She edged teammate Paige Withorn (:10.80). Dena Bliss was third in the women’s long jump with a distance of 4.68 meters (15-4 ¼).

The meet was the final tune-up before next week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at Saginaw Valley State.
