LSSU men win team challenge
SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State conducted its first-ever indoor long jump and triple jump competition during Friday's Team Challenge that included a men's dual between LSSU and Northwood, and a women's tri-meet with LSSU, Northwood and Northern Michigan.
LSSU's new indoor jump pit was installed this fall in the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. LSSU's Sarah Gallagher won the women's long jump, while Laker Kaleb Schweiger won the men's event. Patrick Wright of placed first in the men's triple jump.
LSSU defeated Northwood in the men's dual, 48-26. NMU won the women's meet with 42 points, while Northwood was second with 31 points and LSSU placed third with 29.
Laura Lindsey and Kimberlee Booms claimed a one-two finish in the women's shot put. Courtney Gaskell, Gallagher, Jamie Wick and Julia VandeKirkhove won the women's 4x400-meter relay.
Other first-place finishers for the LSSU men were Ben Charbonneau (55-meter dash), Ben Monroe (300-meter dash), Jake Hoover (1,600-meter run), John Preczewski (55-meter hurdles), Jeremy Braman (high jump), Hans Riedel (shot put) and the Laker 4x200-meter relay.
