2008 GLIAC Cross Country Championship results
SAULT STE. MARIE - Grand Valley State defended its team titles at the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships held Saturday at Tanglewood Marsh Golf Course.
GVSU dominated the meet, placing all seven women and four men in the top 10.
Lake Superior State's top finisher was junior Katie Scott, who placed 20th overall and 15th among top-seven scorers with a time of 22:52.1. LSSU's No. 2 finisher was Kayla Nowak, who was 60th in 24:47.3, followed by Stacy Leyder in 69th place with a time of 25:14.1.
Rounding out top seven finishers for the Laker women's team were: 76. Meghan Thomas, 26:14; 78. Arin Baril, 26:28.7; 81. Marissa Ingle, 27:13.7; 82. Lindsey Mansfield, 27:28.
Wayne State's Rachelle Malette, who placed third at the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship, won the women's 6,000-meter race in 21:24.8.
Luke Allen, Lucas Pease and Andy Gaul finished in a close pack and led the Laker men's team. Allen was 64th in 27:31.5, while Pease was 66th with a time of 27:34.4 and Gaul was 67th in 27:40.1.
Rounding out the top seven finishers for the LSSU men's team were: 71. Joe Cantwell, 28:17.2; 72. Jake Hoover, 28:29.5; 74. Richard Gibson, 28:36.2; 75. Sean Vardy, 28:40.5.
Chris Hammer of GVSU won the men's 8,000-meter race in 25:00.
LSSU served as host of the GLIAC Championship for the first time since 1998.
