Lakers test out GLIAC Championship course

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and Ferris State gave the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship course a test run during the GLIAC Preview Meet held Friday at Tanglewood Marsh Golf Course.
"The race went really well," said LSSU coach
Steve Eles, whose team will host the GLIAC Championships on Oct.
25. "Overall, the course was soft from rain from
the previous night but things went very well. The teams enjoyed the
course and it was a great competition.
"Katie Scott followed up where she left off last week with another
great performance.
She followed up with another effort that could land her another GLIAC Runner of the
Week after winning the award last week."
Scott won for the second time in as many weeks, completing the 6K course in 22:37.66. LSSU's Stacy Leyder was 17th in 24:28.69, followed by Kayla Nowak in 18th with a time of 24:28.69. Marissa Ingle was 37th in 26:36.28, and Courtney Smith placed 41st in 26:50.32.
Two LSSU athletes competing unattached finished in the top 10 for the Laker men. Blaise Henning was third on the 8K course in 26:47, while Ben Tarbutton was seventh in 27:12.28.
"Blaise looked very good," Eles
said. "We look forward to getting him in a Lake State Uniform for our next
meet. Luke Allen and Andy Gaul ran great races for our men's team as
well. I was particularly impressed with our freshmen, for it was their
first time with a 8K race distance for men and a 6K race distance for
women."
Allen was 14th in 27:42.69 to lead the Lakers' official top five finishers. Gaul was 16th in 27:44.79, followed by Sean Vardy in 23rd place with a time of 28:27.56. Jake Hoover was 28th in 28:52.41, and Michael McPherson was 30th in 28:57.38.
