Lakers compete in the nation's largest cross country meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Lake Superior State junior Katie Scott placed 13th among 257 runners in the Women's Maroon II Division of Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational -- the nation's biggest cross country meet hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Scott clocked a 6K time of 23:15.4 while running a 1K pace of 6:15. The division winner was Minnesota-Duluth freshman Morgan Place in 22:16.1. Combining female competitors in Divisions I, II and III, Scott's time placed her 110th among 976 runners.
LSSU freshman Kayla Nowak was 74th in her division with a time of 24:57, while junior Stacy Leyder was 101st in 25:34. Freshman Megan Thomas finished 102nd in 25:34, and rookie Arin Baril was 143rd in 27:20. Juniors Marissa Ingle (28:09) and Alyse Smith (28:21) rounded out the Lakers' top seven, placing 153rd and 154th, respectively.
Senior Luke Allen of Lake Superior State was 110th among 256 runners in the Men's Maroon II Division with a time of 28:21. Freshman Andy Gaul placed 126th in 28:59, followed by sophomore Lucas Pease in 127th (29:02). Freshman Sean Vardy was 131st in 29:28, and freshman Michael McPherson finished 136th in 29:50. Two more Laker freshmen cracked LSSU's top seven as Joe Cantwell was 137th in 29:54 and Mackenzie Oglesby was 141st in 30:21.
