Hoover and Pease lead Lakers at MTU
HOUGHTON - Jake Hoover and Lucas Pease recorded top-10 finishes to lead the Lake Superior State men's cross country team Friday at the season-opening Michigan Tech Meet.
Hoover was seventh in 17:02.5, while Pease placed ninth in 17:09.6. Sean Vardy was 13th in 17:18.8, followed by Jeffrey Kuhl in 20th with a time of 17:42.9. LSSU's seven point scorers also included Alexander Feravich, who was 24th in 17:55.8, Mike McPherson, who was 30th in 18:22.9, and Andrew Althaus, who was 33rd in 18:30. The Lakers, who competed in the meet after spending the week at training camp, placed second among three teams.
Aubrey Danielson was 21st in 21:20.4 to lead the LSSU women's team, which placed third among three teams. Kari Strand was 25th in 21:31.6, followed by Stacey Leyder, who was 35th in 22:12.4, and Kayla Nowak, who was 45th in 22:42.4.
The Lakers' top seven finishers also included Sarah Christilaw, who was 49th (22:44.9), Meghan Thomas, who was 53rd (22:55), and Lindsey Mansfield, who was 55th (23:05.9).
