Nowak and Kuhl pace Lakers at SVSU
UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams previewed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship course Friday at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State.
Jeffrey Kuhl placed 15th to lead the Laker men to a fifth-place finish, while Kayla Nowak was 34th for the Laker women, who were seventh.
Kuhl clocked a 26:41.5 on the 8K men's course. Lucas Pease was 29th (27:32), followed by Sean Vardy, who was 33rd (28:37.9). MacKenzie Oglesby (29:00.4), Jake Hoover (29:05.5), Robert Swain (29:08.9) and Stephen Bates (29:24.5) finished in a pack -- 35th through 38th place.
Nowak finished the women's 6K course in 25:10.8, while Aubree Danielson was 37th in 25:31.3. Meghan Thomas (25:57), Sara Cristilaw (26:23.5) and Lindsey Mansfield (26:25.4) were 40th, 42nd and 43rd, respectively.
Michigan State placed first in both team events. LSSU will compete on the SVSU course again on Oct. 24 during the GLIAC Championships.
