Ten Laker athletes earn GLIAC Academic Excellence Awards

BAY CITY – Ten Lake Superior State student-athletes representing the Laker cross country and volleyball teams received Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic Excellence Awards for the Fall 2010 season.

GLIAC Academic Excellence Awards go to student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Nine other LSSU student-athletes were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team after posting GPAs of 3.0 to 3.49.

Cross country team members earning GLIAC Academic Excellence Awards were seniors Justin Graham (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Kayla Nowak (Alpena, Mich.) and Sara Rewa (Holland, Mich.), junior Sean O’Mara (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), and sophomores Alexander Feravich (Cedar Springs, Mich.), Robert Swain (New Hudson, Mich.) and Sara Schultz (Freeland, Mich.). Juniors Janelle Balkwill (Woodslee, Ont.), Brittany Newberry (Iron Mountain, Mich.) and Jeanna Radzinski (Sterling Heights, Mich.) of the Laker volleyball team also won excellence awards.

Volleyball players earning all-academic recognition were juniors Brandiss Ward (Corunna, Mich.), Anna Neal (Laurium, Mich.) and Abby Shereda (Freesoil, Mich.). Cross country team members on the all-academic list were seniors Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Ont.) and Heather Millard (Plainwell, Mich.), juniors Mike McPherson (Ironwood, Mich.) and Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) and sophomores Tyler Helsel (Sand Lake, Mich.) and Charity Henson (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).
