Lakers compete in NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional
BIG RAPIDS - Sophomores Taylor Heath and Mark List placed 20th and 22nd, respectively, to lead the Lake Superior State men's cross country team at the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional held Saturday at Ferris State. The top 25 men and women receive All-Region honors.
Heath finished the 10K course in 33:11.2 to pace LSSU, which finished 17th among 22 teams. List clocked a 33:12.1. LSSU's top five also included Tucker Seese, who was 135th in 36:39.3, Robert Swain, who was 136th in 36:48.2, and Mike McPherson, who was 137th in 37:10.6.
Freshman Brooke Simon placed 40th with a 8K time of 23:30.3 to lead the Lake Superior State women's team. Elizabeth Dachs was 140th in 25:54.5, followed by Jamie Wick, who was 143rd in 26:11.4. LSSU's top five women also included Sarah Smith, who was 145th in 25:45.9, and Jessica Allen, who was 147th in 26:51.1.
The Laker women placed 21st among 23 teams.
Grand Valley State won the men's and women's team titles. Individual champion's were GVSU's Anthony Witt, who claimed the men's title in 31:58.5, and Hillsdale's Amanda Putt, who won the women's race in 21:26.4.
