Lakers get out-shot at the free-throw line down the stretch

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Lake Superior State fought hard to come back from an eight-point deficit, but Cedarville University made 7-of-10 free throws during the final 2:39 of regulation to come out with a 74-69 victory on its home court Saturday.
Cedarville, ranked seventh in the NAIA national poll, improved to 8-0, while LSSU fell to 2-2.
The Yellow Jackets made 22-of-32 free throws for the game, while the Lakers were 12-of-14 at the line.
LSSU trailed 48-40 with 14:41 remaining in the second half, but Ryan Kuhl made two field goals, and Scott Perkins and Garrett Konuszewski added one each as the Lakers answered with an 8-0 run. Kuhl made a layup at 9:47 to give LSSU its first lead of the second half, 53-52. Matt Romatz hit a jumper, and Perkins had two free throws as the Lakers built a five-point lead with 8:03 to go.
Tim VanOudheusden's jumper tied it 63-63 with 4:30 remaining. Cedarville answered with back-to-back layups and led the rest of the way.
Kuhl led LSSU with a season-high 22 points and five rebounds. Mark Morse made all three of LSSU's three-pointers and followed with 13 points. VanOudheusden added 12 points and five rebounds.
Ricardo Alliman totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds as four Yellow Jackets reached double figures in scoring.
LSSU shot 46.6 percent from the field, including 3-of-12 from three-point range. Cedarville shot 40.4 percent from the field, including 6-of-26 from behind the arc. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Lakers, 41-31.
The Lakers begin Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Dec. 4 at Hillsdale.
