Lakers win Albion Tournament
ALBION, Mich. - Junior guard Kyle Hunt totaled 30 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lake Superior State men's basketball team to a 79-69 victory over Albion during Saturday's championship game of the Albion Tournament.
Hunt, who was 16-of-16 at the free-throw line, was named the tournament's MVP, while senior guard Micah Hudson was named to the all-tournament team. Hudson scored 13 points during the championship contest.
Also for the Lakers (4-1), Derek Billing totaled seven points and 10 rebounds, and Andrew Charlesworth scored eight points. LSSU shot 39 percent from the field, including 8-of-21 from three-point range. The Lakers made 25-of-29 free throws and out-rebounded Albion, 37-32.
Hunt made a three-pointer and a layup, Charlesworth followed with a three-pointer, Billing had a steal and layup, and Hudson added another trey during a 13-3 LSSU run that gave the Lakers a decisive 65-51 lead with 7:15 remaining in the second half. Lake Superior State led 35-34 at halftime.
J.C. Cruse and Kolin Kazen scored 10 points each to lead Albion (2-1). Kazen also totaled 10 rebounds. Albion shot 42.3 percent from the field, including 9-of-24 from three-point range, and made 16-of-23 free throws.
LSSU plays host to Alma at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29.
