Sophomore guard averages 22 points and 6.5 assists for the week
BAY CITY - Lake Superior State sophomore guard Derek Billing was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week after averaging 22.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game during last week's home victories over Ohio Dominican and Tiffin.
Billing (Anna, Ohio) scored a career-high 28 points to lead LSSU to a 71-66 win over ODU last Thursday. He totaled 16 points and eight assists as the Lakers beat Tiffin 76-70. Billing was 5-for-5 from behind the arc and scored 20 second-half points against ODU. Billing's 7-of-8 performance from behind the arc for 87.5 percent against the Panthers is a GLIAC single-game high percentage this season and ties the season high for most single-game threes.
Billing also tied his season high for assists against TU. He averages 15.2 points per game to rank ninth in the GLIAC in scoring and 4.3 assists per game, which ranks fourth. He is second in average three-point field goals per game at 2.7.
LSSU (10-9 overall, 5-7 GLIAC) plays at Ferris State on Feb. 2.
