SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Malek Adams has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Monday.
Adams, a junior guard from Grand Ledge, Michigan, earned athlete of the week honors after helping the Lake Superior State men's basketball team to a 2-0 record on the week. A sport and recreation management major, Adams averaged 25.5 points per game on 60 percent shooting, while grabbing 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game to help Lake Superior State (9-5, 5-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) to a 86-66 win at Northern Michigan on Thursday and a 75-67 win at Michigan Tech on Saturday. Adams also shot 60 percent on three-point shots and 90 percent on free throws on the week. Against Northern Michigan, Adams scored a season-high 26 points, while grabbing a season-best eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. In the win over Michigan Tech, Adams scored 25 points, including 18 in the second half as the Lakers held off the Huskies, on 76.9 percent shooting while tallying three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
This is the first time that Adams has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.

The Lakers' next home action is on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. when they host Wisconsin-Parkside in a conference matchup in Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The Lakers then play a home game against Purdue Northwest at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
