SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Former Lake Superior State men's basketball student-athlete Akaemji Williams has signed a contract to play professionally with Garonne ASPTT in Meilhan-sur-Garonne, France.
Williams, a native of Pontiac, Michigan, put together an illustrious career at Lake Superior State from 2014-18, in which he rewrote the Laker record books and earned numerous accolades. He finished his Laker career as the program leader in career assists (726), career steals (323), steals per game (2.7) and assists per game (6.0). He is also second in career points (2,010).
Williams, who played 120 games (116 starts) in his Laker career, led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in assists per game in 2015-16 (7.2), 2016-17 (7.9) and 2017-18 (6.9). He was also first in the GLIAC in steals per game in 2015-16 (2.9), 2016-17 (3.0) and 2017-18 (3.1).
A two-time NABC All-Midwest selection (2016-17 and 2017-18), Williams averaged 16.8 points per game on 44.4% shooting in his career. He also shot 79.5% from the free throw line and averaged 3.4 made free throws per game. In 2016-17, he averaged a career-best 21.5 points per game.
