LSSU signs one golfer during fall recruiting period

SAULT STE. MARIE – Doug Piesko of Washington, Mich., who has extensive junior tour experience, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at Lake Superior State.

Piesko, an accomplished scholar athlete at Oxford High School, was the 2010 player of the year for the Top50 Junior Tour. He was a medalist three times and recorded three runner-up finishes last season. He also won a title on the Adams Junior Tour and notched two second-place finishes, including one at Heritage Hills, Pa., with the Plantations Junior Tour.

“Doug is an excellent student from a very good family and has extensive experience at the junior golf tour level, which are the main reasons I’ve chosen to sign him during the early signing period,” said LSSU men’s and women’s golf coach Jamie Davison, who was recently named the new golf professional at Sault Country Club. “He is very competitive and knows the more he continues to play and improve at the junior level, the smoother his transition to the college level will be.”
