SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's golf teams are set to open the 2019-20 season this weekend.
The men will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. to take part in the GLIAC North Invitational hosted by Ferris State University on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15. The women's team will compete in the SVSU Fall Invitational in Bay City, Mich. hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.
The Lakers will be led by Head Coach Tony Crisp, Assistant Coach Brent Pusch and Volunteer Student Assistant Coach Gavin MacIver this season.
Crisp, who has served as an assistant coach for the past three years, begins his first year as head coach. When asked about his new role, Crisp's response that he was "looking forward to working with the current and future athletes in skill and personal development".
The men's team will be led by a group of four returning juniors: Isaac Lennox, Nick Oosterhof, Ryan Page, and Carter Tallaire. The other two returners are sophomores Samuel Hamelin and Zander Park. Rounding out the men's team for the 2019-20 season are the two incoming freshmen, Jace Carlisle and Callum McKay.
Lennox will start on the men's side with a 12:00 p.m. tee time. Carlisle will follow with the second tee time at 12:09 p.m. The remaining Lakers with their scheduled tee times are: Ryan Page (12:18 p.m.), Callum McKay (12:27 p.m.) and Nick Oosterhof (12:36 p.m.).
The women's team will be led by Madison Whittet, the only senior on either team. Whittet will be joined by returning juniors Naomi Keyte, Taylor Simoneau, and Madison Wilkie as well as sophomore Alyshia Suleman. The incoming class for the women's team consists of Leigh Snyder and Julia Vess.
The Lakers are set to open their play at the SVSU Invitational with their first golfing teeing off at 10:40 a.m.
Both invitationals will have 9:00 a.m. shotgun starts on Sunday, Sept. 15.
