Schwab, Kaunisto and Cassiani are recognized by MiCHO

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State senior forward Troy Schwab was named to the Michigancollegehockey.com Second Team, while junior defenseman Steven Kaunisto earned third-team honors for 2008-09. Forward Fred Cassiani made the MiCHO All-Rookie Team. 

Schwab, who was also named LSSU's most-valuable player, led the Lakers in points with 11-21-32 and ranked 14th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in points in 2008-09. He totaled 31 goals and 79 assists for 110 career points, becoming the first Laker since 1998 to surpass the century mark in career scoring.

Kaunisto led LSSU defensemen in plus-minus at +10 and was second among defensemen in points with 3-17-20.

Cassiani finished second on the team in goals scored with 11 and totaled 21 points. He ranked eighth among CCHA rookies in scoring and received CCHA All-Rookie Team honorable mention.

The MiCHO First Team included Michigan's Aaron Palushaj (F) and Louie Caporusso (F), Northern Michigan's Erik Gustafsson (D) and Brian Stewart (G), Western Michigan's Patrick Galivan (F) and Michigan State's Jeff Petry (D).

Special honors went to Palusaj (MiCHO Player of the year), Gustafsson (defenseman of the year), Stewart (goaltender of the year), Michigan's David Wohlberg (rookie of the year) and Northern Michigan's Walt Kyle (coach of the year).
