Lakers sweep Falcons

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Lake Superior State defeated Bowling Green State 5-2 Saturday to complete its second series sweep of the season and its first in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action.
LSSU (8-7-3 overall, 5-6-1-0 CCHA) scored less then three minutes into the first period. Senior forward John Scrymgeour's goal from senior forward Pat Aubry gave the Lakers the early lead. The Falcons tied the game with just under four minutes remaining.
Sophomore forward Dan Barczuk and junior forward Rick Schofield scored goals 36 seconds apart in the second to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead. Barczuk recorded his first point this season, while senior forward Zac MacVoy picked up his 11th assist. Schofield's sixth goal of the year was assisted by freshman forward Ben Power and junior forward Will Acton.
LSSU freshman forward Nick McParland got his first collegiate goal, a power-play goal, to give the Lakers a 4-1 lead at 4:50 of the third period. McParland's goal was assisted by freshman defender Zach Trotman and Acton.
The Falcons (2-12-2 overall, 2-8-2-2 CCHA) scored at 12:40 to narrow the deficit to two goals, 4-2. Laker junior forward Dillin Stonehouse answered less then a minute later to regain the three-goal lead. Schofield and Aubry were credited with assists.
Senior goaltender Pat Inglis saved a total of 36 shots for the night. BGSU's Nick Eno stopped 16 shots, and Andrew Hammond finished with 10 saves after replacing Eno midway through the second period.
Lake Superior State finished 1-for-3 on the power play and held BGSU scoreless on four tries.
LSSU, which is currently in seventh place in the CCHA standings with 16 points, plays its last series of 2009 on home ice Dec. 11-12 against the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The annual Stuffed Toy Toss will be held during the Saturday game.
