Lakers take three points from Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Lake Superior State (7-7-3 overall, 4-6-1-0 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) defeated Bowling Green State 2-1 Friday at the BGSU Ice Arena to snap a three-game winless streak.
The Lakers started the game strong, scoring at 4:03 of the first period. Junior defenseman Matt Cowie (1-2-3) netted his first goal for the season from freshman forward Ben Power (1-5-6) and junior forward Rick Schofield (5-8-13).
LSSU rounded out its scoring with a power-play goal by senior defenseman Simon Gysbers (4-5--9) at 18:04 of the first, to lead 2-0. Senior forward Zac MacVoy (2-10-12) picked up the only assist.
BGSU (2-11-2 overall, 2-7-2-2 CCHA) came within one goal by scoring on a power play at 18:07 of the second period. Senior forward Tomas Petruska (3-9-12) was assisted by David Solway and Kyle Page to make it 2-1.
The Falcons and Lakers were both 1-for-4 on the power-play.
LSSU goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson is now 7-6-3 for the season. Mahoney-Wilson stopped 20 shots, while BGSU's Nick Eno saved 25. LSSU didn't allow any shots on goal for BGSU during the :56 seconds that Eno was out of the net.
The Lakers are now 4-4 in games decided by one goal.
LSSU will take on the Falcons at 5:05 p.m. Saturday. The Laker Hockey Pre-game show will start at 4 p.m. on 99.5 Yes FM due to LSSU basketball being broadcast on 1400 AM.
