Lakers lose 10-4 at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - No. 1-ranked Miami defeated Lake Superior State 10-4 Saturday to sweep the series and took six points in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series.
The RedHawks' Andy Miele netted two goals in the first, adding one assist in the contest. Tommy Wingels and Joe Hartman rounded out Miami's scoring in the first period.
Will Weber, Trent Vogelhuber, Alden Hirschfeld, and Vincent LoVerde tallied Miami's second period goals. Carter Camper and Devin Mantha each added a goal in the third for the RedHawks (20-4-6 overall, 16-1-4-2 CCHA), who have a 20-game unbeaten streak in league play.
The Lakers' freshman forward Domenic Monardo and senior defenseman Steven Kaunisto recorded two points in the contest. Miami had 10 players with two or more points.
Monardo started the Laker scoring with a short-handed goal in the second period and added a power-play goal in the third. Freshman forward Nick McParland netted a power-play goal, while junior forward Chad Nehring rounded out the scoring with an even-strength goal in the third.
The Lakers (14-11-5 overall, 9-10-3-2 CCHA) held Miami 1-for-7 on the power-play. LSSU went 2-for-6 on the power-play.
Senior goaltender Mitch Edmondson totaled 12 saves for the night. Junior goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson recorded three saves, while senior goaltender Pat Inglis made seven and recorded the loss. RedHawks' goaltender Connor Knapp stopped 38 shots. LSSU out-shot Miami, 42-32.
On Friday, the RedHawks learned that student manager Brendan Burke was killed in a car accident in Indiana. Burke was the son of Toronto Maple Leaf's General Manager, Brian Burke. Brendan was treasured by those who knew him in Miami's hockey organization and the game was dedicated in his memory.
