Alaska shuts out LSSU

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Lake Superior State (15-13-5 overall, 10-12-3-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) was shut out by Alaska (13-9-9 overall, 10-9-8-4 CCHA), 4-0, Friday at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.

After 24 minutes of scoreless play, Alaska's Dustin Sather scored the game-winner at 4:35 of the second period. Joe Sova and Sather added second-period goals, giving UAF a 3-0 lead. Nik Yaremchuk netted the Nanooks' last goal at 14:25 of the third.

The Lakers out-shot UAF, 32 to 22. Junior goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 22 saves in 59:54 minutes of play, while Scott Greenham stopped all 32 in 60 minutes of play.

LSSU was held to 0-for-3 on the power-play, giving up one power-play goal to Alaska. The Nanooks were 1-for-2 on the power-play.

The Lakers, who are 1-2-0 against UAF this season, dropped to ninth place in the CCHA standings. They trail eighth-place Ohio State by one point with three regular-season games remaining.
