Lakers drop second game on the road
KALAMAZOO - Lake Superior State dropped its second game of this weekend's Central Collegiate Hockey Association series, 2-1, at Western Michigan Saturday night at the Lawson Arena.
LSSU and WMU were both scoreless in the first period. Western Michigan's Ian Slater scored at 14:00 of the second period. Patrick Nagorsen topped off WMU's scoring at the :59 of the third to make it 2-0.
Junior forward Chad Nehring scored his fifth power-play goal of the season to bring the Lakers within one goal, 2-1, at 10:01 of the third. Nehring's goal was assisted by senior forward Zac MacVoy and junior forward Rick Schofield. Nehring is now on a three game goal-scoring streak for the Lakers and is tied for second in the CCHA in goals scored with seven.
Lake Superior was 1-for-1 for the power-play, while Western Michigan was 0-for-2.
LSSU out shot WMU, 40-36. Winning goalie Riley Gill made 40 saves, while LSSU's junior goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson had 36 saves for the night.
LSSU is 4-5-1 overall and 1-4-1-0 in the CCHA. WMU improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-2-1-1 in the CCHA.
The Lakers, who are 1-2-1 overall on the road, travel to Nebraska-Omaha Nov. 13-14. Friday's game will be at 7:35 p.m., and Saturday's game will start at 7:05 p.m.
