Mavs shut out Lakers
OMAHA, Neb. - Mavericks goaltender Jeremie Dupont stopped all 22 Laker shots on goal to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a 4-0 victory over Lake Superior State during Friday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game.
UNO's Brandon Richardson and Rich Purslow scored at 10:32 and 14:34 of the first period as the Mavericks out-shot LSSU 18-7 and jumped to a 2-0 lead during the opening 20 minutes. Purslow made it 3-0 at 2:51 of the second period with his seventh goal of the season. Joe Martin rounded out the scoring with a power-play goal at 11:36 of the third period.
Nebraska-Omaha (5-1-3 overall, 2-1-2-1 CCHA) finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while LSSU (4-6-1 overall, 1-5-1-0 CCHA) was 0-for-5. Purslow's first goal was also a power-play marker.
LSSU goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson totaled 27 saves.
UNO handed Lake Superior State its first shutout loss since Feb. 14, 2009, against Miami. It was the Mavs' first shutout victory of 2009-10.
The Lakers and Mavericks meet in Game 2 of the series at 8:05 ET Saturday at the Qwest Center.
