Lakers split at Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Lake Superior State (7-12-7 overall, 5-9-6-4 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) split its road series with Bowling Green (8-18-2 overall, 3-15-2-0 CCHA) after losing 2-1 Saturday.
Bowling Green opened with a goal at 19:33 of the first period from Ian Ruel. James McIntosh of the Falcons scored the game-winning goal from Jerry Freismuth and Ryan Viselli early in the second period.
The Lakers netted their only goal of the game with less than a minute to play in the second period. LSSU’s power-play goal came from sophomore forward Domenic Monardo (10-13--23), and was assisted by senior forward Will Acton (5-10--15) and defenseman Matt Cowie (4-6--10).
Freshman netminder Kevin Kapalka (6-7-6-4) made 17 saves for the night for LSSU. BGSU’s Andrew Hammond stopped a total of 24 shots on goal.
The Lakers were 1-for-6 on the power-play and held the Falcons to 0-for-4.
LSSU plays a CCHA series at Northern Michigan Feb. 4-5.
