Kapalka is named CCHA Goaltender of the Week

FARMINGTON HILLS - Lake Superior State sophomore goaltender Kevin Kapalka was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week following last weekend's split with Upper Peninsula rival Northern Michigan.

Kapalka (Mississauga, Ont.) stopped 17 of 19 shots during Friday's 2-1 loss and totaled a season-high 44 saves during Saturday's 6-3 victory over NMU. He also helped the Lakers kill off a late-game penalty as the Wildcats pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra attacker.

Western Michigan junior Dane Walters was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Miami junior Steven Spinell was named Gladiator Defenseman of the Week. Alex Guptill of Michigan received Gongshow Rookie of the Week honors.

Kapalka (10-6-2) is ranked sixth in the CCHA in overall save percentage at .917 and ninth in goals-against at 2.42.
