Trotman and Kapalka receive CCHA Player of the Week honors

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association named is Players of the Week for the Jan. 27-28 weekend. Lake Superior State junior defenseman Zach Trotman (8-9--17) was named the CCHA's Defenseman of the Week and sophomore goaltender Kevin Kapalka (13-9-5 overall, 9-8-4-4 CCHA) was named Goaltender of the Week.

Trotman, a 6'3 216 Noblesville, Ind. native notched the Lakers' game-tying goal, a power-play goal, and assisted a power-play goal. Trotman blocked six shots Saturday and is third on the Lakers in blocked shots with 50. He was a key player on LSSU’s power-play and penalty kill.

Trotman is tied for fourth on the Lakers in points with 8-9—17 and first in defenseman. Against CCHA opponents, Trotman is tied for eighth in power-play points with 2-5—7. Trotman is tied for third against league opponents in defenseman scoring with 5-8—13.

Kapalka, a 6'1 201 Mississauga, Ont. native recorded his first CCHA shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Ohio State, making it his fifth collegiate shutout. Saturday's 4-4 tie, 2-1 shootout victory was Kapalka's fourth shootout victory of the season, he is 4-0 during the CCHA shootouts. Kapalka made 75 saves for the Lakers marking the second time this season he has saved 75 shots on goal.

Kapalka is 13-9-5 overall and 9-8-4-4 in the CCHA. He is seventh against league opponents in save percentage (.921) and ninth in winning percentage (.524).
