Bruneteau nets game-winning goal

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State opened regular-season play with a 3-1 non-conference hockey victory over Robert Morris of Atlantic Hockey Friday at the Taffy Abel Arena.

At 16:01 of the first period, LSSU freshman forward Alex Globke (1-1--2) netted his first collegiate goal. His power-play goal gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Globke added one assist on senior defenseman Matt Bruneteau's goal scored at 1:03 of the second period.

Bruneteau's game-winning goal came from senior forward Dan Radke (0-2--2). Radke tallied two assists for the night.

At 19:39 of the second period, the Colonials came within one of the Lakers when Atlantic Hockey goal-scoring leader Cody Wydo netted a short-handed goal. Junior forward Chris Ciotti (1-0--1) answered with LSSU's second power-play goal of the night and regain the Lakers' two-goal lead.

Zach Sternberg (0-2--2) collected two assisted while Andrew Dommet notched a single assist for the Lakers.

Senior goaltender Kevin Murdock (1-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) earned the win by making 26 saves for the Lakers in 60 minutes of play. Robert Morris' Terry Shafer stopped 32 shots on goal.

The Lakers were 2-for-7 on the power-play and held the Colonials to 0-for-7.

LSSU is back in action at 5:07 p.m. Saturday against Robert Morris.
