Prior to his NCAA career, Chatham won the USHL's Clark Cup in 2012 with the Green Bay Gamblers. After being sidelined for 2012-13, he returned with Powell River in the BCHL and ripped in 15 points over 48 games.

Chatham's older brother, Connor, is a defenseman for the Idaho Steelheads and was selected in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.
