Lakers suffer two GLIAC Tournament losses

MIDLAND - Sixth-seed Lake Superior State lost 5-2 to No. 3 seed Grand Valley State and 5-4 to No. 7 seed Findlay during the first two rounds of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament held Saturday at Midland.

Findlay (8-10) avenged a 5-4 regular-season loss to the Lakers (6-11).

Pawel Wegrzyn defeated Marc Roesslein, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles and teammed with Razvan Mag to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, accounting for LSSU's victories over GVSU (19-7).

LSSU and Findlay were 3-3 against each other in singles, but the Oilers edged the Lakers in doubles, 2-1. Craig Baas and Jack Miller posted an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles and claimed straight-set Nos. 5 and 6 singles victories. Brandon Clayton notched a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
