Lakers sweep singles in dual against Oilers
SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team swept singles to beat Findlay 7-2 in a home dual match Saturday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.
The Lakers (7-8 overall, 3-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) close out the regular season with a match at 11 a.m. Sunday against Tiffin.
LSSU, which competed without two regular starters, trailed 2-1 after doubles. Lakers Pawel Wegrzyn at No. 3 singles and Travis Toth at No. 4 singles posted three-set victories to secure the team win. Fill-in Jack Miller won 7-6, 1-6 (10-3) at No. 5 for his first win of the season, and Collin Kuoppola improved to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-7 (11-9) win at No. 6.
Findlay fell to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers entered the final week of the regular season ranked ninth in the Midwest Region. The top eight teams earns NCAA Tournament bids.
