Men's tennis opens at Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team opened its season with a 5-4 loss to the University of Indianapolis Friday.
Sophomore Sergiu Laza (Toronto, Ont.) and senior Brandon Clayton (Windsor, Ont.) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, freshman Ryne DuShane (Holland, Mich.) and sophomore partner Dane Fosgard (St. Clair, Mich.) won 9-8 (7-5).
Laza and DuShane were winners in singles. At No. 1 singles, Laza defeated U. Indy, 6-3, 6-4. DuShane won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The match was tied 4-4 and decided by No. 3 singles. Nelson lost 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 to Indy's Alex Poe.
The Lakers face Southern Indiana on Saturday.
