Lakers win two on the road

ALMA, Mich. - Lake Superior men's tennis took two non-conference road wins over the weekend against Huntington and Alma. The Lakers are 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

LSSU defeated Huntington 5-4 March 9th and Alma March 10th 8-1 at the Superior Street Tennis Complex.

At No. 1 singles Pedro Nunes lost a close match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 against Huntington. In a third set tie-breaker TJ Myers couldn't hold on for the win, losing 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-4 at No. 4 singles. Ryne DuShane come out victorious over Huntington in a third set tie-breaker 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.

In doubles play over Huntington the Lakers took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles victories. Against Alma the Lakers swept doubles competition.

The Lakers were victorious in five out of the six singles sets against Alma. Nunes (6-3, 6-3), Grant Link (6-2, 6-1), Kyle Koster (6-3, 6-4), Dane Fosgard (6-4, 6-2), and DuShane (6-3, 6-1) all earned wins.

The Lakers and LSSU Intramurals are sponsoring a doubles tournament to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.

The Lake State Shootout, which is open to the public, will be held Saturday, March 16, at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. The entry fee is $30 per team, and the registration deadline is Friday, March 15.
